Holiday Party Success!

We had an amazing time with holiday activities today. We started out the day with a color by category bell worksheet and got students started on a special gift for their parents. Then we went to Media at 9:30 and when we got back we continued working on our gift project, wrote letters to Santa, and did a Christmas crossword puzzle. After lunch we read "The Gingerbread Girl" and noticed similarities & differences between this story and some other gingerbread stories we've read. Then we had groups listen to "Polar Express" on CD while others made their own holiday book, created holiday puzzles, and put together and colored a christmas riddle book. After that it was time for PE and when we returned we made reindeer cookies using nutter butters, m&m's for the eyes/nose, and a pretzel for the antlers. We also ate cupcakes and watched Spongebob. Then we passed out goodie bags and gave hugs for the break. Thank everyone so much for contributing money and goodies to make it a day to remember! I will be posting pictures, if you have approved, very soon.

Happy Holidays & Happy New Year!

This week we are working on illustrations for our reports, but today we did our monthly writing prompt.  The student's had to write steps on how they took care of someone or something.  In Reading, we read "The Country Mouse and City Mouse" and discuss generalizations we could make about the country and city.  For Skills Block we went over vocab and made flashcards and talked about the soft c & soft g sound (ex: place, page).  In Math we are making quilts using 2 colors with patterns.  We will be talking about dimes in our Math Skills block this week as well as reviewing addition and subtraction.  In Science we will start talking about Earth Structures. We will be doing testing on Thursday this week due to our Holiday Party on Friday, so please have your child study vocab and spelling on Wed.

I am still looking at ideas for the party but plan on getting cupcakes, chips, drinks, and crafts.  We will also be making nutter butter reindeer cookies.  It should be a fun time!

Well, we got rained out for our Zoo trip but had a great time doing holiday activities! We made stockings, practiced fluency with the"Five Little Bells" poem, read and sang "Baby Baluga", played addition bingo, and read "Polar Express". We did a game after reading Polar Express called "hot seat" where students had to come up and pretend they were the boy or Santa from the story and students got to ask them questions while they answered as the character from the story would. For lunch we ate in the classroom and we enjoyed watching "The Grinch that Grinched Cat in the Hat".

Our zoo trip will be rescheduled at a later date and I will keep you informed as to when. Despite the weather and not getting to see amazing animals, we had a great day!
